i honestly love that movie too. i’ve watched it so many times since i was a kid and it still hits every time. definitely one of those underrated disney movies people don’t talk about enough, but it’s actually so good.

this was so lovely! ironically, i only learned about this movie recently through a soul-sucking SEO updating gig and i haven't seen it yet, but now it's on my list. everything you're saying here seems so obvious, but it is so obvious that it's become something we hardly think about collectively anymore. i do think about how evil tech has become pretty often, but i don't reflect enough on the parts that have been good. this is a reminder to do that. thank you <3

i know !! i feel like it’s an Effort to go find good tech which is upsetting bc it should be like the highlights! idk why we glaze these big tech ppl so much when they have the same ideas as every other platform (videos on their platform and AI replacing software devs) wheRe is the fun in that?!

Meet the Robinsons has always been in my top 5 movies of all time, so I do kinda feel like you psychoanalyzed me way more than I was prepared for at 8am, but I also loved it. Thanks for articulating something so deeply hopeful.

I’m reading this immediately after watching Dune 2 and wow, what an antidote! All of this is why solarpunk is my favorite sci fi genre. I need hope for a future beyond a surveillance state.

An inspired read, one might say, wrote like an artist.

May we get back to a point that we build like artists.

one of the bests texts written here so far!!!!! meet the robinsons went straight to my watchlist again (it's been a more than 5 years) and i agree with every point you made — plus, you had me right at the start, feelings were felt with that manip (manip? people still use this word? idk)

Another banger! I keep worrying that tech probably peaked sometime over a decade ago, and everything since has just been the same ideas revised again and again, or the erasure of human influence (as you wrote). AI is the ‘new’ thing, and it’s everywhere because it’s promoted as making life easier. Meanwhile, I’ve only seen it bulldoze and bastardise art and fill social media with weird fake influencers and clickbait. It made me smile to see that you work in software and have an interest in the humanity in tech evolution. I’m studying psychology and counselling (with a particular interest in the social science of it all), and it feels like I only ever see technology making us feel worse in ways I’d never even considered before. Great work as usual :) I might have to watch this movie again later

ah yay! i lowkey got nervous saying i was a software dev HAHA bc i think, especially right now, they get a bad rep. but the public only sees the big tech evil ppl that control everything. i think it’s a lot more common for software devs to have the same ideas that i have honestly. also agreeeeed with “the same ideas revised again”. it’s ALLL THE same. no one is inventive anymore :/

as a techie myself, i feel you too. I love technology, coding and solving problems. Job hunting in this market made me despise it, I hate how much clout you need to actually work in the area you prepared so much for!!! everything has to be fast, automatic, generalized, uhg.
